The Cost Analysis

The Cost Analysis

Most of us has been in situation when, presented with choices, none leads to a better path. As you grow up, the realisation that the world is not so black and white. Rather, it is a gradient. There might be grey, darker grey, or even grey so light it is indistinguishable from white, but still not white.

Growing up, the realisation that being an adult also means being responsible for the choices you have made. It's a freedom, but one that is not free.

The first time I have been faced with seemingly lost proposition alone, I had chosen the path of not choosing. Well, if either choice made me lose badly, then it's better if I don't make any choices?

My first job was not so glamorous. Working 8-to-7, with meagre salary, and unhealthy behaviour between employees and employers, I wondered. Is it better if I stayed, or look for new jobs, or stop working for the current time? By staying in my job, I could keep myself afloat, yet sacrificing my physical and mental health. By looking for new jobs, there were sure better opportunities out there, but I'm risking my current job and with little time I have it would be hard to schedule time for interview. By stop working, I save my physical and (some) mental health, but sacrificing most things.

The logical thing is, of course, staying in my job. But that entails some sacrifices. So does the other choices I had. It's never a binary choice between good or bad (unless you are a computer who speaks in binary) choices.

The more I see it, most thing in this world does costs us. Maybe not in monetary value, or even physical cost. Love is said to be something that's sincere from heart and thus doesn't cost anything. But you should know that's a lie if you know well enough.

The conclusion I'm going to make here is, that there is no inherently 'bad' choices. The definition of bad and good itself is already problematic since it is subjective. You can make bad choices, yes, but is it worse than not making any choices at all? Even in a seemingly good choices, there are costs involved as I said above. So, make good use of the choices you have, whatever it is. Nothing is without risk, and what is life without up and down? Enjoy the journey.
