A human is just a finite being, we can only hold so much in our hands, figuratively, and our minds. And a human being also can never be satisfied by what it holds, they always strive for more. This can either be framed as negative or positive, depending on the context.
For most, decisions must be made. Indecision in itself is a decision that you have made, by not choosing, you might inadvertently be at the mercy of the situation, or worse, other person. Just like a democracy, not choosing any candidate is a choice by itself (golput).
However, sometimes choosing the best choice doesn't equate the choice with short term gains. Given a chance, anyone can run a red light to save time. But there is a risk. You might get into a traffic accident, or simply you will get fined for running a red light. Instead, most would choose to obey the red light and drive when the lights turn green. Not because they would waste a minute or two by waiting, but it will give them a peace of mind that they will be safer from accident and from fine.
Play the longer game, and don't be fooled by short-term gains. Be wary of others, and this holds true for most of the time:
- If it's too good to be true, it most likely is
- There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch (TANSTAAFL)
Until next time.
