Procrastinating Documentation

It was Saturday, January 8th 2022, when I was looking at DigitalOcean's guide to initialise your Ubuntu 20.04 server. First time SSH'ing into the server was like a dream come true! it works, and now I'm a wizard sysadmin!

Fast forward 3 years, we are now in the present. I'm now used to modifying docker-compose file to set up a new app to self-host, adjusting sysctl for some stuffs, even setting up new Wireguard client to the server.

The moment of clarity hit me when I was first migrating my stack to another provider.

🤡
How did i set up the server in the first place?

Like an archaeologist digging up trace of civilizations in some tel in the Fertile Crescent, looking for a clue how past societies work, through some pottery shards, so do I. Digging up past confs, that thankfully had comments, and looking at my browser history, finding clue on how to set it up.

I was elated. Celebrations ensued and a promise to document all the stuffs i've tried the second time.

But, as you guess, the reason i'm writing this article is that I never done it.

Seeing people flexing their stack's documentation always give me a bit of a heartache, knowing that I could've done it.

I will publish my stacks in the coming days, because it is damn cool.
